Mayotte After Dark

Original date: December 16th, 2024

One day, Nadil woke up to find his parents’ house destroyed by a cyclone and his home island plunged into entire darkness.

He sets out to find a solution by using a headset to connect to the VR world.

There, he met Yara, a girl from the same village as him, who was also in the same world as him.

“Oh, hi there, Nadil! How are you doing?”, she said.

“I’m doing great, Yara! Thank you!”, he replied.

And so, Nadil and Yara set out on a journey in the VR world.

While in the VR world, they encountered Saouda sitting in front of a campfire.

“Everything in Mayotte is complete chaos”, Saouda said.

“For real.”, the two of them said.

“Saouda, would you like to join us in our adventure to save Mayotte?”, Nadil said.

Saouda agreed to join the duo in their quest, and they went to Rovaniemi, said to be the hometown of Santa Claus.

There, they saw Lael sitting with a snowboard next to him, saying to himself in Finnish that translated to “Only if I could have a girlfriend, who I can see the northern lights with…”

“Moi!”, Yara said in Finnish.

“Oh, hi there, who are you?”, Lael replied.

“Hi, I’m Yara from France. Nice to meet you!”, she responded back.

“How did you know my language?”, he asked.

“I learned it all by myself.”, she answered.

“Can we be friends?”, Lael said.

“Of course, you can be friends with all of us!”, Yara replied.

And so, everybody became friends.

Nadil, Yara, Saouda and Lael spent their entire day across Europe, until it was time for Saouda to log out of the VR world.

She told them “It was fun wandering with you all in this VR world!”, before continuing with “Since I have things to study in real life, I gotta go now. Goodbye!” before logging out of the VR world.

Now, it’s just Nadil, Yara and Lael.

Nadil then said to them “Now that Saouda is gone and that it’s just the three of us, what should we do next?”

Yara responded with “I don’t know, but how about we meet Niels in Copenhagen?”

Lael said, “Who the hell is Niels?”

Nadil responded to him, telling him “It’s that guy who has a crush on Yara.”

Lael quickly understood what Nadil was telling him and knew who Niels was. 

They eventually arrived in Denmark, where they saw Joakim playing music and singing his own song.

Yara asked Joakim if he had seen Niels, to which he told her that he had seen him before.

Suddenly, Niels showed up, holding a lighter and paper cigarette.

“Wanna smoke?”, he asked Yara, to which she told him that she’s not old enough to smoke.

“Oh, I see. My bad.”, he said back while shaking his head before looking at the guys and asked her “Who are these guys?”

“Well, they are Nadil, Lael and Joakim.”, Yara said, before continuing with “They’re from France, Finland and Denmark.”

“I see.”, Niels replied.

“No time for chit-chatting, Yara and Niels!”, Nadil told them in a stern tone.

The two of them awkwardly stared at him, as if he betrayed them.

Nadil then profusely apologized to them, and said to Yara “We don’t have enough time left to chit-chat in Denmark. We have one goal, and that goal is to save Mayotte from impending doom!”

Yara and Lael quickly understood what their goals were and listened to Nadil.

Niels then asked Nadil if he could join them in their quest, to which the latter agreed to let him join his group.

And so, Nadil decided to name his group “The Nightwanderers”.

The Nightwanderers parted ways with Joakim in Denmark and wandered south to Germany and eventually headed towards Strasbourg.

In Strasbourg, the Nightwalkers asked if they could have a helicopter and use it to fly around Mayotte.

Suddenly, Saouda logged back in, and asked if she could fly with them, to which Lael agreed to let her in onto the helicopter.

The helicopter eventually flies away from Strasbourg.

It headed towards the Atlantic Ocean and the southern tip of Africa before reaching the Mozambique Channel.

While flying over the Mozambique Channel, they saw a mysterious airship, responsible for stealing most of Mayotte’s energy source, currently being chased by multiple helicopters for hijacking a container ship.

While in the airship, one of the commanders noticed several helicopters with their head speakers shouting, “Surrender now!”

Niels told Yara, Nadil, Lael and Saouda “There it is, the ship! Bring your weapons with you all, as we’re heading towards the ship, now!”

They all grabbed their weapons and jumped to the top of the ship.

Nadil and Saouda jumped to the cockpit, leaving the commanders no choice but to capture Yara and put her away to somewhere else.

This ended up backfiring on them, as Lael punched and kicked them to the ground, knocking them down.

Nadil saved Yara by carrying her with him, but just as he was about to run away from the ship, a red alarm came off, causing multiple robots to come after them and their teammates.

“Holy shit, we’re screwed guys…”, Niels said upon seeing the robots.

Lael threw a glitter bomb at the robots, blinding them and causing them to attack each other, to the point of destroying themselves.

Meanwhile, Nadil, Yara and Saouda entered the engine room and saw the light source running on it.

“There it is the stolen electricity from Mayotte… Let’s bring it back to the island ASAP!”, Yara said, before using a machete to break the glass, obtaining the extract of the stolen light source.

This led to the ship setting itself on fire, causing the three of them to flee from the scene, with Saouda telling Lael and Niels to come follow her in escaping from the ship along with her colleagues Yara and Nadil.

As a result, everyone jumped off from the burning ship, with a parachute, and they eventually landed on a beach near a parking spot. 

Nadil woke up and saw several people surrounding him and his teammates, thanking them for saving the entire island.

He then said, “Is everyone okay?”, to which Yara, Lael, Saouda and Niels all woke up at the same time and told him that they’re all doing okay.

As soon as the sun sets in the island, Nadil, Yara, Saouda, Lael and Niels gathered for the former’s group selfie before they parted ways with each other, as Saouda and Niels logged out of the VR world, leaving just Nadil, Yara and Lael.

The three of them took a group selfie using a Polaroid, with the result photo labelled as Mayotte After Dark, and their names written on the photo with a blue pen.

Everyone soon logged out of the VR world, with Nadil keeping the same photo he had in VR in the real world the whole time, ending the story of Mayotte After Dark.
